Positive Aging Academy
Tom was lucky to work for a company that offered a retirement seminar. He got some good advice on the financial decisions he needed to make for his retirement, but he didn’t feel that the day-to-day aspects of retirement were addressed.
Then Tom heard about the Positive Aging Academy--a retirement series that both presents information and has built-in time to discuss the week’s topic. The six topics seemed to be relevant--things like what to do with the new-found time or how to live on a fixed income.
Tom signed up; he knew he wanted to get the most out of his retirement—and it would be good to hear what others had to say. The series had a new topic each week:
- Blue Zones: The factors that contribute to longevity.
- Memoir: The value of reflecting on your life and legacy.
- Living on Purpose: Activities and causes that satisfy, fulfill or guide you.
- Health through Social Connections: Revisiting the importance of relationships.
- Money Issues: Know what you value, then “money” will come.
- Streamlining for Purposeful Living: How to downsize life and leave more time for purpose-driven activities.
By the end of the series, Tom was inspired! His dusty trumpet came out of hiding; he started recording his life stories into a tape machine; and he joined a cooking class for men. The second half of life was going to be good.
Two options to participate in the Positive Aging Academy are offered in the coming weeks.
- Tuesdays, February 16 through March 23, 12:30 to 2:30 pm at Eastern Broome Senior Center, 27 Golden Lane, Harpursville.
