Proposed Laws, Existing Laws & FOIL Request Forms
Copies of existing laws and resolutions along with supporting documents (maps, presentations, etc.) are available for review in the Office of the Clerk of the Legislature, on the Sixth Floor of the Broome County Office Building during business hours.  The Charter and Administrative Code of the County of Broome is available on this web site under "Broome Online".   Broome County Charter and Administrative Code

Current items for consideration by the Legislature or one if its Committees (proposed laws and resolutions) are available for review in the Office of the Clerk of the Legislature, in draft form, approximately 3 days before the Committee Meeting or Legislative Session at which they will be considered. All legislative business (agendas, minutes, and resolutions) from January 2007 forward is available on the Legislature's Legislative Business webpage, and therefore, may not have to be requested by special request.

Other public information is available by submitting a request in writing. The Freedom of Information Law allows anyone to petition any public entity for records which are available under the law, such as laws, budgets, reports, etc.  Broome County has devised a form to help people request information more easily. The form is available below or may be obtained from the Office of the Clerk of the Legislature and, once completed, may be turned in to that office via E-Mail, fax, postal mail, or in person for processing.

If a request is submitted electronically and the record is available electronically, it will be supplied to you electronically.  Some information can only be supplied on paper.  There is a fee of $.25 per page on requests of five pages or more.  Some records may be too large to send via email and, if so, may be provided on other electronic media.  There is a fee of $2.00 for a CD or other media.

Questions about Police Reports?

This office can assist you with obtaining Police Reports only from the Broome County Sheriff and Broome County Government Security.  This office does not have access to records maintained by local Municipal Police Departments or the New York State Police.  Requests to non-County Police Agencies should be directed directly to the police agency.  Contact information for local municipal police agencies and State Police are as follows:
